Value Experience Helps
 Faith Value Experience #1
- Read Hebrews 11.
The words "by faith" appear several times here.
We can learn from this.
What things have happend by faith for the following people:
1.Abel
2. Enoch
3. Noah
4. Abraham
5. Sara
6. Isaac
7. Jacob
8. Joseph
9. Moses
10. Joshua (Jericho)
If all these great things were accomplished because by faith,
do you think that great things can happen in your life by your faith?
How can you find out?
(Hint: Did the walls of Jericho fall because Joshua did nothing, or did he have to act first?)
Does it take a lot of faith for things to happen? (hint: read Alma 32:27)
What thing is it impossible to do without faith? (v.6) Then, when we do have faith and come unto God, what does He do?
Read v. 40 and the footnote. Why is our faith sometimes tested?
Read Alma 32:17-42
What does it take for our faith to grow?
Faith is compared to a seed....
In verse 28 you will see a scripture list of things required for faith to grow Watch for the word 'if' as a clue:
If you ______ ______,
If the seed is ______,
If you do not cast it out by ________
(what are we told about this? Unbelief is resisting the Spirit)
Then our faith grows,it enlarges our soul, enlightens our understanding and is delicious! (Remember, we can partake of all the faith we want- it's OK to be Spiritually fat!)
This is not the end the growth of our faith... and we must exercise faith continually to keep it growing (plants, when we do not care for them, will not continue growing) What is the promise (v.42) -the reward for nourishing our faith?
 Divine Nature #1
2 Peter 1 - Peter was a very strong man who endured trials and persecutions for his beliefs, yet he managed to write wonderful and uplifting things to others. Sometime (on a Sunday afternoon, perhaps) you might want to learn more about Peter and read more of the things he wrote.
For now, though:
In verses 5-8, Peter lists some of the divine attributes we inherited from our Heavenly Father (you should be keeping a list of these as you work on this value experience) Later on, Peter promises something if we build on these things. What is the promise?
In verse 14, we read that Peter feels the words he is writing (which you are now reading) may be the last things he writes.
Read his wonderful, powerful testimony in verses 16- 18.
Do you know people who say that the scriptures or the Book of Mormon is a cleverly written `story' or fable? What does Peter say to people like that?
There is no greater witness that Peter's testimony is true than that which he gives in verse 21.
Holy Men speak "_______ ______ _______ _____ ____ ____ ________ _______.
Think about a time when you heard someone bear testimony of something so powerfully that you knew they had been prompted by the Holy Spirit and felt it as well.
Thought: Peter was martyred soon after this. He was one of the last of the 12 Apostles (along with Paul) to bear eye witness testimony of the Savior. What year did this probably happen?
(Hint: look in the Bible Dictionary)
Alma 7:23 & 24- Before you read these verses, imagine for a moment how the people of Zarahemla must have felt having waited and waited, through all kinds of trials and persecutions, to finally see the Savior as they were promised. Now he is visiting them. Do you think they longed to hear what He had to say?
First, He gave some commandments
and says to "______ _______" in keeping them.
He tells us to ask for things we `stand in need' of, both _______ and _________.
Always returning ________ __ _______.
What three things are we then told to see that we have?
1. _________
2. _________
3. _________
After you complete the reading in D&C 121:45, ponder this:
Do you notice certain words or qualities appearing in all these verses?
Notice how, especially in Alma, Jesus gives these commandments in a gentle voice?
Every time a commandment is given, what is given at the same time?
 Divine Nature #6
There are at least 13 qualities listed in all these verses!!
Some are listed more than once.
As you list them,
mark the ones you found more than once with a star.

Individual Worth #1
Psalm 8:4-6 What are we (you) crowned with?
Why?
Jeremiah 1:5 What does this scripture tell us about who made us?
What can we learn about our pre-mortal life?
What does it mean when it says that before we were born we were sanctified?
John 13:34 We are commanded to love others how?
Who is speaking?
How does He love us? _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
D&C 18:10 Do you (we) have a soul? (soul means our spirit)
Therefore- are you of great worth?
Read Isaiah 43:4 Thou are what? _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Abraham 3:22-23 God saw what kind of souls? _ _ _ _
He stood in the midst of them....do you think you might have stood nearby?
Read v.24; Who else was standing there with you?
Knowledge #1
2 Nephi 28:30 - One thing I like is that whenever the Lord gives us a commandment, he also gives us the promise to go with it. What is the commandment and promise here?
The first part of this scripture talks about line upon line and precept on precept.
Do you ever get frustrated because you can't do something or don't understand something...
but someone comes along and explains things so they make sense. That's what line upon line is all about.
We need to remember that while Heavenly Father teaches us in this way (line upon line),
He also teaches others this way. We may have learned more lines
(or, gulp!, less lines) than others. How can this help us understand others?
D & C 88:78 - 80 : There are a lot of things Heavenly Father says He will help us learn here...
Which part means the most to you?
v. 118 : There is an important component here. We are told to seek from the best books learning but not to forget what?
Why do you think it's important not to lay aside our faith as we learn things?
Do you think people in the world who are learned sometimes teach as fact things that are partly incorrect or even completely false?
So without faith (and/or listening to the Spirit) will we be able to understand what is true or not true?
Part of the Promise of the Book of Mormon is that if we read and study from it's pages daily, we will not be deceived. What does that tell us about how important it is to balance our education with a knowledge of the Scriptures?
D & C 90: 15 - The scriptures here deal with specifice commands from Heavenly Father to learn
about
People
Languages
Good Books
D & C 130: 18,19 - What is the one thing we take with us from this life?
And why is it important for us to learn all we can while we're here?
Choice and Accountability #1
1 Nephi 15:8 - The first thing Nephi asks is if his brethren have inquired of the Lord.
It's that simple! (that he gives no other suggestions)
It's that important! (so he mentions it first and simply)
Read also, verse 11: There are four things Nephi says to do to receive answers
What are they?

2._______________________
3._______________________

2 Nephi 32:3 - How can we feast upon the words of Christ? (hint: read the footnotes!)
Does this mean that when we read the scriptures, the answers to our questions are always in the words we read? (Sometimes they are!)
Or is there a deeper meaning:
That when we study the scriptures we have the Holy Ghost with us and then we can be prompted to do things and get answers?
Have you ever had an experience like either of these?
Alma 34: 19 - 27 : There is a lot of crying going on here! What do you think all this means?
How many different places or ways should we pray to Heavenly Father?
What is meant by listing all these things?
What do you supposed is meant by "letting your hearts be full"?
Scripture Secrets: Verse 26- When it says "in your wilderness" what do you think could be meant besides the real wilderness?
Have you read of people who were `in the wilderness'? (the Isealites, Lehi's family)
Could `wilderness' be another word for `lost'?
So when we read `in your wilderness' could we replace it with "when you are lost or lonely"? Doesn't that verse mean much more now?
Scripture Secrets: Verse 28 - yes, this is an extra verse! Read it to make sure you know the whole thing!!
Ether 2-3 : You know this story already....about the Brother of Jared. How can you relate this to your life?
Do you think you'll ever have to build barges that need light?
Probably not, but perhaps you'll need some little thing here or there and after you have studied and worked hard and done all you can do, you might exercise your faith as the Brother of Jared and
ask the Lord to do something specific. Is there a specific need in your life right now?
Ponder what thing you might ask for to help with your problem....remember to ask in faith and always if it be the Lord's will.
Scripture Secret: What is the name of the brother of Jared? It's hiding! Read Ether 2:13 and then read the footnotes: Alma 8:7 and Ether 1:34.
Doctrine and Covenants 9 :7-9 - Who were these verses first written for?
What lesson did Oliver Cowdery have to learn?
(hint: we talked about it before: asking if something be the Lord's will)
We must practice listening and feeling the Holy Ghost so we can be sure what we think we should do is correct.
The more often you seek the Spirit (through prayer) in your decisions, the better you will become at listening.
Try studying something out in your mind and asking for a confirmation of your choice.
