A Few More Things...
Here's a list of things to remember when planning your storage. One thing to remember as you read these lists: Don't try to have it all at once. Keep these items in mind as you shop. If you find a really great deal on something, pick up two (or three) and add them to your supply. By shopping the sales, your monsy will go further, and as you save more money, you'll have more to spend on ... Food Storage!

Misc. Food Items
Such as spices and seasonings, maybe a few "treat" items your family particularly enjoys. Some must haves are: yeast, baking soda and powder, cornstarch, flavorings, mustard (dry), worchestershire sauce and soy sauce (soy sauce can replace salt). You might also want to store Italian Seasonings (game meats are seasoned well with italian herbs), bullion, dried onions, bay leaves, garlic powder and cinnamon.
There's more!
Don't forget corn meal, lemon juice, catsup, gelatin (this can substitute for eggs in baking) and nuts. Whatever your family really likes and eats well is something to store (if it's store-able) Be wise in your choices, though. We once watched a family dry pack several bags of Doritos. At 50 cents for each can they used, we figured they had $10 just in cans, and another $30 for the chips. By storing corn meal and spices, for about $5 they could have stored enough stuff to make thier own chips--about three times as many! Yes, those chips were going to be fresh for a year or more (no guarantees about the shape they'll be in), but the money could have been better spent. We recently went to the canned food "outlet" where we found mandarin oranges, 4 cans for $1. I bought 12 cans. I figured with a can of fruit coktail and some of the powdered "dream whip" mix, I could make fruit salad once a month--with mandarin oranges in it! That's a fun treat.
Cleaners
This would include soap, detergents and such. We have stored a few bottles of the new "waterless" hand cleaner. Also, laundry soap and ammonia. Record how much you use of certain cleaners in a month's time, multiply by 12 and you'll know how much to store!
 Toiletries
This is really important if you've got teenage girls!! Seriously, though, you should store things like shampoo, shavers and shaving cream, first aid supplies, hand lotion toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant and feminine products. Since we buy most of these things in bulk, we usually have a few months supply. Do you wear contact lenses? You'll need to store solutions or be sure you've got a spare pair of glasses. And don't forget Toilet Paper! The book says you'll need 50 rolls per person per year. We store less, and ration it!
 Provisions
These are the things you'll be glad you had!
Extra Clothing, shoes and socks (long underwear?)
Towels, blankets, sleeping bags and pillows. Sheets are great all purpose items.
Ax, knives, hammer, nails, saw, rope.
Ice chest, 1 gallon thermos jugs
Lamps and fuel, candles, matches, firewood. How about the items necessary to make "tin can stoves".
Flashlights and good batteries. Also a good battery operated radio. I don't recommend counting on the "boom box"--we discovered it ate batteries very quickly. We now keep a simple radio with the camping gear, and the batteries to run it.
Sewing supplies: needles, thread, scissors, buttons and zippers.
Extra car parts--this would be really important if your car's parts are hard to find anyway.
Garbage cans and liners--these can be used to make emergency latrines.
Entertainment supplies: board games, books, crayons, scissors (maybe a roll of butcher paper) glue, and so on.
Coleman stoves, dutch ovens, gas grills, and the fuels necessary for these.
