Make-up Tips
Whatever you and your parents decide about when and how much make-up you can wear, here are some tips for applying each type of make-up.
 CONTENTS
Skin care is important,
even if you choose not to wear any make-up.
Sister Kate suggests:
Beginning when you are about 12 years old, learn to care for your skin. When you are consistent about skin care, you are ready to begin wearing a small amount of clear or pale colored lip gloss. When you are a little older (about 13 or 14) you can learn to apply mascara in a natural shade (for most girls, that is NOT black). When you begin dating (that means you're 16), you can learn about applying blush and eye shadow and liners.
Many young women prefer to not wear any make-up, except for very special occaisions, until they are older (14 or 16). Others prefer to begin by wearing small amounts of neutral shades. For example: you might want to begin wearing only a small amount of clear or lip-colored lip gloss. Once you know how to use that, you might want to begin wearing a little mascara of the same shade as your natural lashes. Later you can add colored eye shadow and blush for special occaisions (such as a special date). This way you can practice using each type of make-up and see how it looks, learning how much is just the right amount to look natural.

 Skin Care Basics
Skin care is important, even if you choose not to wear any make-up.
First: Skin Type
The type of skin you have determines the type of care you give it. Oily, T-zone Oily, normal, dry or very dry. Your skin tone might change a little bit during the month, so you'll need to decided which type of skin you have most of the time. Then choose a skin care plan for that type of skin.
Blemishes
We all get them....and they have a thousand names: pimples, zits.....whatever! One thing to remember is that you can't prevent them entirely...it's a fact of life! Good nutrition will help prevent a few. So will a good nights sleep and drinking enough water. When you do get one, leave it alone and it will go away with less damage in the end. When you try to 'pop' them, you damage the good skin nearby and might even spread them around. Using cover-ups or cleansing strips isn't always a good idea since those products can be hard on sensitive skin.
Cleansing
Every night before you say your prayers, you need to cleanse your skin and remove the days dirt and make-up. Water is enough, especially if you have very dry or sensitive skin. If you are buying your skin care products from the department store or a beauty supplier, you may be able to get samples of products. Find the one that works best for you. Cleansing is the first step of your daily skin care routine. P.S. Keep your pillowcase clean, too!
Toner
This is not the stuff you use in the copy machine!! Once you've cleansed your skin, the pores are open and breathing. To prevent dirt from getting inside the pores, you'll need to use an astringent or toner to close the pores and return your skin to it's normal state. People with very dry skin may find that some toners are too strong. Once again, read labels and be prepared to change products if you find that one doesn't work for you.
Moisturizer
I used to think that because I was young I didn't need a moisturizer. Not true!
All skin need moisturizing, no matter how old! If you live in very dry climates, this is even more important. If you have oily skin, you may find that a moisturizing gel works better than a heavy cream, also read the label and choose a product that doesn't contain oil or mineral oils or butters.
No matter what your skin type, choose a moisturizer that is absorbed by your skin readily and doesn't feel greasy. A good moisturizer will not burn or irritate your skin. Dont forget to put that moisturizer on your neck!
 EveryDay Make-up
(Make Up to last all day long)
It's important to remember that the purpose of using make-up is to enhance your natural looks without looking like you're wearing any!
Beginning Make-up
For young girls, makeup should enhance your beauty and not be overdone. You could wear a bronzing gel to even out your skintone. A bronzing powder will give you a bronzed look, great for summer. Minimal makeup would be using a peach eyeshadow and deep brown or green mascara. Have some fun with color and let your inner beauty shine through!
Foundation Color (for teens)
If you live in a very dry climate, using some form of foundation or moisturizer is a good idea to protect your skin. Young skin doesn't normally need a foundation color, so choose a color that matches your skintone exactly. A darker or lighter color will look strange close up.
Blusher Color
The color of blusher you choose depends on a few factors. Your skin tone directly relates to the intensity you choose (light, medium, dark). Your blusher color should also relate to the shade of lipstick you wear. It doesn´t have to be the same color, but it should be in the same color family (pink brown or yellow brown or red brown, for example).
Applying Blush
Smile. Brush the color on the apple of your cheek (that's the round part). Gently blend back towards the hairline.
 Fun Make-up
Fun for teens
Teenage make-up should be sheer and natural looking. For the eyes, use a pencil in a pastel (violet or blue) for light colored eyes, or a smoky color (plum, black or brown) for brown eyes. Use a complimenting mascara in black, brown or violet.
Evening wear
To make your eyes really stand out for those nights on the town, apply a light shade of eyeshadow (white or cream colored) to the entire eye area (from the lid up to the brow),then apply a dark color(brown, black, plum)
to the crease of your eye making sure it is visible. Be sure not to overdo it unless you want to look like a goth. Blend by quickly sweeping a large powder brush over the eye. You´ll only need to apply mascara and lipstick and you´re ready for a night on the town!
Glitter
For face or body glimmer, go to your nearest Mall and visit The Icing cosmetics store. For everything from hair gel to body glitter, mascara, lip gloss, they have it all at a reasonable price. The glitter is in a gel base and will dry on the skin. It comes in a roll-on or a jar.
Halloween Makeover Party
For a fun girls night out party, get some friends together and have them bring all their junk make-up (be careful when sharing makeup such as mascara that goes in your eyes, you may wind up sharing eye infections too!). Everybody brings old clothes. Help each other pick wacky outfits and try wacky make-up looks, like a teenage dress up party!
Fun Makeover
Visit the cosmetics counter at your favorite department store. The salespeople there are trained in make-up techniques, so get a make-over from one of them. Watch in the mirror and ask questions so you can try some things out at home. If you like what you see, have the clerk write on a card the colors and brands that she used, then you can save the card for future reference (and your Christmas List!) Also, many companies offer 'gift with purchase' deals, especially around the holidays. You can buy one thing you need (such as foundation or cleanser) and get a batch of sample sizes to try out.
Mascara Tip
If you buy mascara at the department store, ask the clerk for a free sample size mascara at the time you purchase the regular size one. That way you have one to keep in your purse that matches what you've already got.
