Oils: The Cooking oil we stored smells funny, is it OK to use?
It might be ok, but it will likely make whatever you use it in taste funny. For Serious nasty smell, discard it. For light funny odor, use it, quick! Prevention: Oils really don't keep well in most climates for longer than six months. Store what you will use in that time, and rotate it regularly. Shortenings are okay to use unless they have changed color. Nuts can get this funny smell too: they contain oils. Store nuts in the freezer for a longer shelf life.
